Absinthe is a brisk, emerald-green accord centered on wormwood, with anisic licorice, herbal bitterness, and cool camphor-minty shimmer; it smells crisp and slightly boozy, evoking Belle Époque salons and smoky, nocturnal intrigue. Used sparingly as a top-to-heart accent, it lifts aromatic fougères, chypres, and woods, cuts the sweetness of gourmands, and builds “cocktail” effects; perfumers often pair it with lavender, anise, fennel, mint, citrus, spices, incense, leather, vetiver, and vanillic-amber bases.
