About
Agarwood (oud) is the resin-saturated heartwood of Aquilaria/Gyrinops trees, with a dark, complex scent that can be smoky-woody, balsamic, leathery-animalic, and slightly medicinal, offset by honeyed, ambered sweetness and damp-earth/incense facets—evoking temples, polished woods, and nocturnal opulence. In perfumery it serves as a powerful base note and fixative used sparingly to impart depth and gravitas to woody, leather, and amber compositions, often paired with rose, saffron, patchouli, or vanilla; due to rarity and cost, natural oud oils are frequently augmented or interpreted with modern oud accords.
