Black currant leaf (cassis bud) smells intensely green and tart-fruity—crushed stems, hedgerow sap, and dark-berry tang—shot through with a distinctive catty, sulfurous facet reminiscent of boxwood and tomato leaf; it evokes dewy spring gardens and freshly bruised foliage. Exceptionally diffusive and used in small doses, it sparks top notes and fresh floral hearts, adds bite to chypres and modern fruity compositions, and pairs well with citrus, galbanum, violet leaf, herbs, musks, and woods.
