About
Cangzhu (Atractylodes rhizome) is warm, dry and rooty with a pungent, camphoraceous spiciness and an earthy, slightly bitter woody undertone that evokes dried herbal roots, moxa and sun‑warmed bark. It can read medicinal and incense-like, with a restrained sweetness under the dry, resinous bite. In perfumery Cangzhu is used as a middle-to-base note to impart dry herbal depth, leathery-woody warmth and a traditional Chinese herbal character; it blends well with spices, woods, resins and oriental accords to add complexity, authenticity and a subtly medicinal, incensey anchor.
