Caramel is a warm, buttery sweetness of cooked sugar with toasted-toffee and brown-butter facets, carrying creamy, milky and slightly burnt edges that read gourmand, chewy and almost sticky on the skin. It evokes cozy desserts and childhood treats, suggesting comfort and intimate warmth; in perfumery it’s used as a gourmand or base accent to add roundness, rich sweetness and depth, often built from or paired with vanilla, tonka, benzoin, chocolate, lactones or a pinch of salt and woods to prevent cloying and to prolong longevity.
