About
Clay is a dry, mineral, slightly dusty note that evokes sun‑baked terracotta, cool wet riverbank soil after rain, and the powdery texture of freshly worked earth; it can read warm and baked or cold and flinty depending on concentration and supporting materials. In perfumery clay is used as a textural heart or base accord to add mineral restraint and depth—commonly paired with leather, woods, vetiver, iris, amber or citrus—and is recreated with both natural extracts and synthetics to produce either sun‑warmed pottery or damp, petrichor‑like effects.
