Cypress is a green-coniferous note characterized by crisp, dry woodiness with resinous, slightly camphoraceous and smoky facets, evoking sun-baked Mediterranean forests, windblown avenues and a taut, aromatic freshness rather than sweet or resinous warmth. In perfumery it functions as a top-to-middle structural note that brings cooling clarity and an austere, leathery-woody backbone, commonly blended with citrus, lavender, vetiver, incense and oakmoss to add longevity, dryness and a refined, masculine or aromatic profile.
