Dark patchouli is a denser, more resinous facet of patchouli—earthy and damp at its core with smoky, leathery and slightly sweet balsamic or chocolatey facets that evoke a mossy forest floor, aged wood and well-worn leather. Used as a base and fixative, it imparts depth, warmth and persistence to orientals, chypres, woody and gourmand compositions, frequently blended with amber, labdanum, oud, vanilla, spices, vetiver and rich florals to accentuate shadowy sensuality and longevity.
