Edelweiss, the iconic alpine bloom, has a delicate, clean scent impression: a sheer floral with airy green facets, soft powdery-musk undertones, and whispers of dried hay and cool mountain herbs that evoke crisp mountain air and high-altitude purity. Because the flower is protected and yields little aroma, perfumers typically create an Edelweiss accord using muguet-type materials, ionones, soft musks, ozonic and aldehydic notes, and light woods to lend brightness and innocence to fresh florals, modern fougeres, and airy musky compositions.
