In perfumery, Fern is an abstract green accord (ferns themselves have no notable aroma) that evokes cool shade and damp forest floor—airy-herbal, mossy, slightly bitter, with a soft hay-like sweetness and a dewy, soapy freshness. Typically rendered in the fougère style, it blends lavender, bergamot, geranium, oakmoss, and coumarin/tonka, often with woods, to create a clean “barbershop” polish and a verdant backbone, lending foresty freshness to both classic and modern compositions.
