Hog plum captures the tart, tropical snap of Spondias fruit—juicy yet astringent—merging green, sappy facets of unripe mango and crushed leaves with tangy hints of pineapple, apple skin, and yellow stone-fruit, sometimes with a faint resinous twang. It evokes sun-drenched orchards and mouthwatering freshness with a slightly saline, rustic edge. In perfumery it is typically an accord built from crisp green aldehydes, fruity esters, and a light touch of lactones, used as a vibrant top note to add exotic juiciness and bite. It pairs especially well with citrus, mango and guava accords, passion fruit, violet leaf, airy musks, and dry cedar or other light woods.
