About
Hyraceum is the fossilized excreta and urine of the rock hyrax that yields a dense, animalic accord: leathery, musky and tarry with resinous amber, smoky-earthy and slightly medicinal or leathery-old-leather facets that can read ambergris-like or civet-like. Used sparingly as a base note and fixative, it imparts long-lasting animalic warmth and depth—commonly blended with leather, labdanum, incense, woods and resins to give compositions an aged, oud- or musk-like character and to boost tenacity, making it a prized ingredient in niche and natural perfumery.
