Iris butter (orris butter) is the concentrated extract of aged iris rhizomes rich in irones, smelling cool, buttery, and exquisitely powdery with rooty, carroty, and faintly violet facets that evoke vintage cosmetics, soft suede, and chilled earth. In perfumery it functions as a refined heart-to-base note and fixative, imparting elegant powderiness and a buttery, suede-like texture to florals, woods, and chypres; used in tiny amounts for polish or at higher doses as a luxurious focal point.
