Liquidambar (the storax resin of the sweetgum tree) smells warm and ambery-balsamic: sweet, syrupy, and resinous with cinnamon-like spice, vanilla-honey nuances, and a soft smoky-leathery undertone that can feel both comforting and slightly exotic. It evokes glowing sap, polished wood, and autumnal amber. Used as a base note and natural fixative, it deepens and warms ambery, chypre, leather, and tobacco compositions, blending seamlessly with labdanum, benzoin, vanilla, tonka, woods, incense, and spices.
