Nard (spikenard) is a dark, resinous root accord with an earthy-woody core and warm balsamic sweetness, carrying slightly camphoraceous, medicinal topnotes and a powdery, animalic, incense-like heart that can evoke leather, tobacco and mossy forest floor. In perfumery it functions as a deep base and fixative used sparingly to impart longevity, smoky-amber depth and an antique, sacred character, marrying well with woods, labdanum, amber, resins and rich florals to add complexity and mystery.
