Port Wine is a rich, fortified-wine accord — syrupy and jammy with concentrated black-fruit facets (black cherry, plum, raisin), cooked grape must, molasses and a warm, boozy vinous heart often tinged with tannic or nutty oxidative notes, evoking candlelit cellars and a dessert-like, after-dinner warmth. Perfumers use it sparingly to lend decadent, gourmand and boozy depth—anchoring orientals, ambers, gourmands, leathery or tobacco compositions and blending naturally with spices, vanilla, chocolate, balsams and woods to create cozy, baroque or wintertime accords with a syrupy, warming finish.
