Rubber in perfumery is a dry, slightly smoky, milky-waxy accord that evokes latex gloves, warmed neoprene, and tarred rubber—cleanly industrial with faint sweet-burnt and metallic facets and an intimate, skinlike animalic warmth. It can read both synthetic and oddly sensual, suggesting urban asphalt or a second-skin embrace. Used sparingly as a heart-to-base accent, rubber adds modernity, grit, and persistence to compositions, sharpening leathers, fougères, and woody or smoky blends; it’s typically paired with woods, vetiver, incense, spices or florals to create contrast, depth, and an intriguing, edgy signature.
