About
Sassafras smells warm, sweet-woody and rooty with balsamic, spicy and faint aniseed/cola-like facets; its aroma balances a dry, resinous earthiness with toasted, green undertones that can evoke root beer, autumn woods and rustic herbal roots. In perfumery it is used sparingly as a base or heart modifier to impart vintage gourmand, woody-spicy or resinous character—often recreated with synthetics because natural oil contains restricted constituents—and it blends well with woods, spices, vanilla and citrus to add a warm, cola/root-beer nuance.
