Thuja offers a dry, resinous-green aroma—sharp and camphoraceous with cedar-like, piney and slightly smoky facets and a faint bitter-citrus brightness. It evokes wind-swept evergreens and antiseptic incense; in perfumery it’s used as a top-to-middle accord to add coniferous freshness or a medicinal, resinous bite in woody, aromatic, fougère, chypre and incense constructions, pairing well with citrus, labdanum, frankincense, cedar, vetiver and leather.
