Civet is an animalic note originally sourced from the perineal secretion of the civet cat, but today it is almost entirely recreated with civetone and related synthetics. Used in minute traces as a fixative and a lifelike amplifier, civet deepens florals (notably jasmine and tuberose), enriches chypres and orientals, smooths harsh edges, and adds a sensual, slightly dirty undertone with great diffusion and longevity.
