ABOUT
Mastic (lentisque) is the resin of Pistacia lentiscus, smelling fresh-green and balsamic: piney and herbal with a terpenic citrus sparkle, a peppery snap, and soft woody, slightly leathery–incense undertones that evoke sun-baked Mediterranean scrub and seaside evergreens. In perfumery, its essential oil or absolute adds translucent green-resinous lift and a discreet fixative sheen, bridging citrus tops to woody, amber, or incense bases in colognes, chypres, fougères, and leather styles, and pairing naturally with galbanum, cypress, pine, rosemary, labdanum, and frankincense.
CATEGORY · RESINOUS
Resinous notes are characterized by their rich, warm, and often sweet aromas, derived from the natural resins of trees and plants. These scents typically evoke a sense of earthiness and depth, featuring elements like frankincense, myrrh, and benzoin, which contribute to a soothing and meditative quality in fragrances. Commonly found in oriental and woody compositions, resinous notes add complexity and longevity, enhancing the overall warmth and richness of the scent while often providing a grounding effect.
