Pu'er tea is a dark, fermented tea accord with a deep, earthy core—damp forest floor, loam, dried mushroom and leather—tempered by tannic tea leaf bitterness, a faint smoked-wood and cocoa-like warmth, and an aged, almost medicinal sweetness that evokes a misty teahouse or an antique wooden chest. It reads as mature, somber and slightly mineral, suggesting wet stone, tobacco and spent embers rather than fresh green tea. In perfumery Pu'er is used as a middle-to-base accord to impart depth, dry, rounded earthiness and long-lasting woody-leathery character; it blends naturally with woods, incense, leather, tobacco, spices and balsams, and is often paired with citrus or florals to lift its heavy, fermented facets while preserving an atmospheric, contemplative finish.
